Why is There a Lack of Weddings in 2025?

This past week, we had the opportunity to go to Chicago to attend The Wedding Master Class's: State of the Wedding Industry networking event. During this event, the speaker asked if any of the vendors noticed a decrease in their sales. The majority of the vendors had a decrease from years previous. Most of them contributed this to having such a high surge of couples that waited or postponed their weddings because of Covid-19. The speaker told us this was still the trickle down affects of Covid, but not because of the surge. This blog discusses why there is a lack of weddings for 2025 and if you're like me, the reason why will surprise you.

A Social Slowdown: Love in the Age of Isolation

When the world slowed down in 2020, so did social connection. For many, working from home became the new norm, replacing the casual office chatter and after-hours gatherings where friendships often blossomed into something more. With fewer chances to meet new people organically, the pool of potential romantic partners grew smaller. For years, dating was woven into daily routines—meeting someone through mutual friends, at a local coffee shop, or during a weekend getaway. But as the pandemic stretched on, those spontaneous moments faded. Video calls replaced in-person dates, and isolation took a toll on emotional well-being. Many young professionals, particularly those working remotely, found themselves caught in a cycle of solitude, making it harder to forge new relationships.

The Missing Milestones: Delayed Relationships, Delayed Engagements

The pandemic didn’t just pause social interaction—it also delayed life’s major milestones. Many couples who were already together postponed engagements, hesitant to plan weddings during uncertain times. Meanwhile, singles faced new challenges in meeting potential partners, leaving them months or years behind where they might have been otherwise. In 2024 and 2025, wedding venues and planners noticed a curious trend—a decline in newly engaged couples booking their celebrations. Without the natural flow of relationships forming over the past few years, there are simply fewer love stories reaching the point of “I do.”

A Changing Landscape for Weddings

This shift doesn’t just affect couples—it touches the entire wedding industry. From florists to photographers, many vendors are seeing the echoes of those quiet pandemic years in their calendars. Venues that were once booked years in advance are finding more open weekends, and the rush of post-pandemic weddings is beginning to slow.

At Riverbend Estate, we’ve witnessed the joy of love stories unfolding, and we know there’s something timeless about gathering loved ones to celebrate a commitment. Yet, we also recognize that today’s couples face a different world—one where meeting “the one” isn’t as simple as it once was.

Hope on the Horizon

While the pandemic changed how relationships form, it hasn’t dampened the hope of finding love. We have returned to in-person events, seeking new ways to connect, and embracing life’s milestones with renewed intention. For those who do find their person, there’s a deeper sense of gratitude—a recognition that love is worth the wait. And when the time comes to celebrate, the joy is all the sweeter. At Riverbend Estate, we believe that love stories will always find their way, no matter how much the world changes. While 2025 may see fewer weddings, the promise of forever remains as strong as ever. After all, love endures—and so does the beauty of coming together to celebrate it.
